Highway Planning
The free flow of traffic on our roadways is vital to the economic success and quality of life in our region. Old Colony Planning Council is engaged in a variety of planning activities studying traffic circulation.
Corridor Studies: OCPC will identify a heavily-traveled route, usually a state numbered route that traverses the region, and develop solutions to enhance circulation, safety and traffic flow efficiency.
Major Bottleneck Studies: The Major Bottleneck In-Depth Analysis and Action Plan investigates three major bottlenecks, which are areas that are impediments to the free movement of traffic and create periods of vehicle congestion. OCPC reviews the volume of traffic to the capacity of the road and makes recommendations of short and long-term remediation strategies. Addressing and alleviating bottleneck congestion enhances the movement of people and goods.
Roadway Drainage and Runoff Inventory: The Roadway Drainage and Runoff Inventory will examine the condition and capacity of the network of road drainage infrastructure in our region. This inventory serves as a follow-up to the Climate Change Transportation Impact Study conducted in FFY 2010, which took a general look at the effects of climate change on the region's transportation network.
