The Council's Economic Development Program (see committee ) is concerned with

 assisting firms to remain or expand within the region, attracting new economic development activities which fit the region's resources and labor force, strengthening key resources including activities to improve the region's water, sewer and transportation systems, and supporting manpower training.  

The Council accomplishes its program through its Comprehensive Economic

 Development Strategy (CEDS) Committee. The CEDS Committee serves as an idea and information exchange for agencies, firms, officials and individuals concerned with economic development in the District and is advisory to the Council on economic development issues.

The Council provides administrative and technical support and hosts bi-monthly meetings of the CEDS Committee.  The effort is supported by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA)  who has designated the Council region an Economic Development District.  The past year's efforts have also included:

·         Preparation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). Old Colony Planning Council has prepared a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy for the Economic Development District that analyzes district trends, resources and needs, reports on progress, lists goals and objectives, priority projects and includes an implementation strategy.

·         Continued to provide data, program information and other assistance to a wide variety of individuals, private firms and public agencies interested in the region.
