The Old Colony Planning Council is the designated Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for twenty-three communities in southeastern Massachusetts.  The AAA service region includes the fifteen member communities of the OCPC planning district and eight additional communities that together make up the AAA service region.

As the designated AAA for this region, we are responsible for the establishment of a comprehensive, coordinated system of community-based supportive services and nutrition services for the elders in our region.  To achieve this goal, the OCPC-AAA administers grant funding authorized under the Older Americans Act of 1965.   This funding is allocated through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs.  In addition to our responsibilities as an AAA, we also administer the long-term care Ombudsman program for our region.

Older Americans Act:

With input and guidance provided by the AAA Advisory Committee, the AAA establishes service priority areas for funding under a four-year Area Plan.  In federal fiscal year 2006, the OCPC-AAA provided grant funding to community-based organizations for service provision in the following areas:

·        Minority elder outreach and supportive services

·        Personal Care services

·        Services for disabled elders

·        Transportation

·        Legal Services

·        Emergency Assistance

·        Congregate and Home-Delivered meals

·        Family Caregiver Support Services

In FFY 2006, the OCPC-AAA distributed over $1,000,000 in Older Americans Act funding for these services, resulting in over 300,000 hours/units of service to over 2,000 different elders in our region.
